This event is Saturday February 1st.
This is an afternoon charity workshop open to local Girl Scouts where we will be sewing for animals that have been rescued from the Australian Bush Fires. Many animals that have been rescued form the Bush Fires are young joeys that need pouches to stand in for their lost mothers as they grow and heal. One of the items that is needed the most by Australian animal rescue efforts are the 3D hanging pouches for joeys of all sizes and ages, which is what we will be making this Saturday. Girl Scouts will work in pairs to create a joey pouch that will be shipped to areas of Australia that are in need according to the Animal Rescue Collective Craft Guild.
No experience is needed, but there is a firm 8 year old and up age limit because we will be using real sewing machines and sharp tools (scissors and pins) to make the joey pouches. Participants’ guardian will be asked to sign a waiver the day of. If your child is too young to participate or your troop can’t make it that day, please help us out by donating what you can so we can purchase fabric and pay for shipping to send the joey pouches to Australia! Donations can be dropped off in cash or check form at Old Spool Sewing Studio or sent via Venmo to Julia-Passafiume.
Please Register for a 1 hour session and bring your minimum $10 donation the day of in cash. We are a small studio and ask that you drop off/pick up your child on time (may we suggest grabbing a coffee and baked good down the street at Sugar Bake Shop?) so that there is ample space here for the girl scouts to work. If your child does not finish their project, another girl scout will pick up where she left off. Time limits need to be adhered to so that this event runs smoothly!!
Any donations that exceed our materials cost will be given to Childrens’ Ground Australia, a Australian based non-profit that’s devoted to beating systemic poverty in the Indigenous First Nations people who will no doubt be massively affected by the Bush Fires, but don’t get as much press as sweet little joeys.
