The first session of this course for Fall of 2021 is sold out! We will be covering the *same* skills in our Wednesday Evening Fashion I Course and are happy to have students explore costume design in that class if they missed out joining the Monday class.
New this school year is our Cosplay & Costuming 12 week After School Course! This class is only open to students in 8th grade or older who have taken our Intro to Sewing Prerequisite as we will cover more advanced beginner/intermediate sewing and design techniques. This class is *not* only sewing – we will cover the steps of design from inspiration gathering to sketching, discuss fabrics and other materials, as well as pattern drafting and more all inspired by our favorite books, tv shows or historical eras.
Contact us if you are unsure if your child’s skill level is suited to this course and rest assured it is now a regular offering at the studio that they will be able to join in the future if they are interested.
This class will be a more structured approach to learning sewing and design as opposed to our usual after school courses which are more independent and focused on sewing a finished project. Please Note in Level 1 we will *not* be creating full, individual costumes from scratch and this is not a Halloween costume course, it is a creative approach to learning design and sewing techniques.
This course will involve: gathering inspiration, sketching, design theories, fashion history, basic pattern drafting and modification (math and ruler work!) and advanced beginner/intermediate sewing techniques. Each week will vary in the lesson style while we cover techniques and theories and then challenge ourselves to apply them in specific project prompts during this course. Students will need to exhibit a level of self starting and motivation in order to keep up with the class as a whole.
**We will do our best to provide all materials necessary to complete this course, but in order to keep the class price similar to our other after school classes there may be materials (i.e. drawing materials / special fabric / sewing tools) students will need to purchase in order to supplement their lessons or projects. We will give plenty of resources and suggestions for you to find these materials for the student**
All Parents/Gaurdians: Once you have enrolled your child you must review, sign and submit the After School Agreement that can be found through here or through the Main Menu>Old Spool After School>After School Agreement.
We do ask that every student invests in a small artist’s sketchbook (9×12 is a good size to carry around) for class as a place for them to record all ideas and sketches. It may also be helpful for students to bring a laptop, ipad or their phone in order to research/reference during class. We will inform you the weeks that your students need to bring these things.
