Event Details

A favorite of the sewing community is now at a sewing studio near you! The Wiksten pattern company’s Haori Jacket is a fully lined and reversible Japanese inspired garment that is perfect for layering for the Fall and Winter. It is an oversized, boxy fit, which you can size down for a closer fit if preferred, but I love the idea of making it in a cozy fabric that I can throw on as soon as the temps get cool.

This is a weekend workshop you will cut and sew up your very own Hoari Jacket.  Be sure to check out the #wikstenhaori on Instagram for inspiration!

Prerequisite: This is a Advanced Beginner Class. A great challenge for sewists completely new to garment sewing, as well as a fun sew for those who have made a simple garment or two.

Skills Covered: How to choose your size according to your body measurements, cutting out fabric, marking your pattern pieces, garment sewing techniques including lining and hemming.

Materials Provided: The Wiksten Haori pattern (a $16 value) as well as sewing machines and notions. You will copy the pattern in class.

Materials Needed:

-for Main fabric: medium weight woven fabric with good drape, such as textured cotton, chambray, linen, soft denim, cotton/linen blends, twill, and wool. If you have any questions about fabrics, please contact me! Also, see my blog post about great online shops for garment fabrics (Joann’s does have a decent selection, but you will find more online)

-for Lining fabric: light to medium weight woven fabric with good drape, such as textured cotton, chambray, linen, cotton/linen blend, and silk. Keep in mind that you don’t necessarily want to use two thick fabrics for this if you are new to garment sewing, i.e. if you are using a wool for the main fabric, a light chambray lining would be cute!

-2 1/2 yds flexible, lightweight fusible interfacing. Pellon 911FF is appropriate for most of the suitable fabrics for this garment.
