In a past life, Julia (the owner of Old Spool) worked as a designer for NYC fashion brands and attended the world renowned Parsons the New School for Design in New York City. She was a contestant on Slice TV in Canada’s first season Stitched, a show just like Project Runway, as well as participated in Beijing Fashion week as a contestant in a design competition. While she still uses the skills she learned as a designer during the day to day of running a sewing studio, she misses fashion design and all the glamour of it!
This is a 6 week introductory illustration and fashion design course aimed at kids 13 and older who have interest in Fashion Design. It begins Tuesday February 18th and the last class is March 24th. Class is from 7:15-8:30. All basic materials will be included in the registration fee, but there is an optional/recommended supply list (will be given out the first week of class) for students who would like to bring their own so they may also experiment at home!
We will cover the basics of fashion illustration, rendering garments and fabric as well as increase our fashion vocabulary, create mood boards and design our own mini fashion collection. This is also a great class for teens who are considering attending fashion school for college and need to begin building a portfolio. If there is interest, we will offer a advanced portfolio development class as well!
This class will be jam packed with information to kick start your kids’ journey into fashion design. From anatomy and proportions of the fashion figure to finding our own unique style using different mediums, we will ultimately design and render a small collection and present it in class to our peers.
(Tuesday) 7:15 pm - 8:30 pm
