Event Details

*This class has been rescheduled from the first week of February to the 29th and 1st.

In this weekend-long workshop we will cut and sew our very own Estuary Skirt by the sewing pattern company Sew Liberated! This beginner friendly skirt will teach you skills from gathering, making an elastic back waist (so comfy!) to creating a button placket (or not, a faux placket looks just as cute) and will look fabulous with sweaters this Winter and with t-shirts in the spring time. Also, it has two different style pockets! Sew a nice big patch pocket or an in-seam pocket. It can also be lengthened to floor length, if that’s what you fancy, please just purchase more fabric if you’re looking to make her a maxi!

Prerequisite: This is an Advanced Beginner class for those looking to challenge themselves with their first garment.

Skills Covered: Picking your size from a sewing pattern, cutting layouts and cutting your fabric, following a sewing pattern, button plackets and buttonholes (optional) pockets (both inseam and patch pockets are included!) sewing gathers, inserting elastic.

Materials Needed: This is for medium weight woven fabrics such as linens and linen blends, rayons, ikats, soft cottons, silk noils, chambrays and light denims. Check out this blog post for great online garment fabric stores!

–For sizes 0-8 you need 2 1/2 yards of fabric, no matter the width.

-For sizes 10-30 you need 2 1/3 yards of fabric if it is 54″ wide OR 3 1/4 yards if it is 45” wide.

**Please launder your fabric prior to the start of class! This assures that it shrinks before we sew it, not after!**

-For all sizes you need 1 1/2” wide soft elastic for the waistband.

-For all sizes you need 10 buttons either 5/8” or 3/4” big

-1 spool of matching all purpose polyester thread.

Materials provided:  The Estuary Skirt Pattern, a printed copy of the pattern for you to use (a $20 value) as well as all sewing machines and notions.
